Insanity- Week 2 and 3 Recap

So week 2 and 3 are done. Jason and I are now on day 20 and are 1/3 of the way done with Insanity!!!

Week 2 was hard. We were on spring break and I was busy and lazy at the same time (busy with the boys and I made excuses because I didn't want to work-out too.) I skipped several days that week and honestly, I could tell. I was more sluggish and kinda felt gross.

We picked ourselves up and killed it on week 3! This Monday was our second fit test. Here are my results...
I am super proud of those numbers. I did more reps in every exercise (even if it was just by .5!) =) This week, we didn't skip any days and I was able to do more each day than the one before. I still take lots of breaks but I can tell a huge improvement on my fitness.

Food-Still eating clean. I was having a hard time coming up with something other than chicken and salad every night. My Mom told me about a great website...Dashing Dish. This week, we made the Three Cheese Chicken Pasta Bake and Creamy Buffalo Chicken Enchiladas. Both were VERY good. Dashing Dish gives the nutritional info of every recipe (she even gives Weight Watcher Points + for the recipes too!)

Weight- I am down 2 more pounds, so 4 pounds total. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed about that. I have been working out like a maniac and my weight is going No. Where! Since I have had my boys, my metabolism is completely different. It used to be so easy for me to lose weight and now I have to fight for every ounce I get. Oh well. It will come off eventually! You want to know what I am totally psyched out of my mind about though? This...
That my friends is the first "bicep crease" that I have seen since I was in college! Right now it is a baby bicep crease but it makes me excited. My weight may not be changing, but my body is!

So there you have it. Week 3 is in the books and Jason and I haven't quit yet. We have a big week this week that includes working, Insanity and me dealing with this...
That would be what I will need to prep for a colonoscopy that I will have Monday. (I have all the essentials: my "clear diet", my prep medicines, some good magazines, and some University of Memphis blue finger nail polish to give myself a pedicure during my *ahem* "down time". Who knows, I may actually lose some weight this week. *wink, wink

Spring Break Fun

What a great week. I was off last Thursday and Friday and I feel we crammed as much fun as we could in those 2 days (and the weekend) as possible! Thursday, Hudson went to school and Jackson and I had a "date day".
The whole day was about Jackson. He is usually my quiet child...but Thursday, he did not stop talking. He talked about everything. I enjoyed driving with the radio off and just listening to him.
We went to his favorite park and played for about an hour. (My favorite part of the day: he was playing and would catch me watching him and he would wink at me. How adorable.) We ate lunch and went shopping for some birthday presents. He went with me to get my hair done and then we picked up dinner on the way home. This day was what my heart needed. I don't get to spend a lot of one-on-one time with my oldest boy and I know the Lord gave me this day right when I needed it!
Friday, Jason was off work so we went to the zoo (with everyone else in Memphis!...I'm not joking!) What trip to the zoo is complete without a picture in front of the animals at the entrance? We had a picnic lunch, saw all the boys favorite animals, and then we went to the new exhibit Stingray Bay.
Jackson liked it until one stingray tried to eat his hand. Hudson didn't want anything to do with it. He was not about to touch a Stingray or a shark.
We got them a shark tooth necklace as we left that day. They have worn them everyday since. They LOVE them!
Saturday was another busy day. Hudson had a birthday party in the morning that I took him to. It was on the coolest farm. Huds thought riding the horse was great!
Jackson had a birthday party in the afternoon that Jason took him to. It was his first time playing putt-putt and Jason told me he did a really good job.
Late Saturday afternoon, I went to a wedding shower for a family friend. It was a beautiful shower and the bride got some great presents.
Sunday morning, the boys and I went to see my sister run in the Germantown half-marathon. She didn't know we were coming. (She did hear my loud mouth cheering for her as she came to the finish.)
She did great. She got a PR...1:42! She is a machine I tell you. Jackson was so proud of her.
That afternoon we took naps, Jason smoked some ribs and chicken, and we watched Selection Sunday. We are so excited for March Madness. Can you tell who Pete (and his family) is cheering for?....Go Tigers Go! Proud of Memphis and our 6 seed.

Today will be spent with Hudson doing as little as possible. I am looking forward to a day with not much to do!

Insanity-Week 1 Recap

Alright guys, Jason and I are done with week 1 of Insanity (I can hear the angels singing the Hallelujah chorus now! I can't tell if they are singing because I am done with week one and didn't quit or because we are enjoying the only day off we get this week...hmmm.). It is quite possibly the hardest thing I have done. Now yes, I have trained for a half-marathon. However, I am a bit of a pansy-I don't like to sweat or be out of breath so I didn't quite push myself the way I should have (and I did A LOT of walking during the actual half.)

So anyway like I said, I am quite a pansy. I don't like breathing hard, sweating, having sore muscles, and this is the kind of aerobics I like...
Feel free to ask yourself, "Why is this girl doing Insanity?" (I am still asking myself that.) I watched an infomercial, somehow talked the hubby into doing it, and we jumped in with both feet.

Day 1- Fit Test: The first day of the rest of my life? Ha! Challenging but it was 25 minutes, I can do anything for 25 minutes. I finished and I didn't feel terrible. Hey, I might actually do this and get ripped. And then the next day, I woke up and was sore. Sore from the Fit Test...sad!

Day 2- Plyometric Cardio Circuit: Yikes! You know it is intense when you want to quit during the warm-up. But then there is the stretching...and oh, it is glorious! Enjoy that little respite because you are about to hit it and hit it hard. I finished (with LOTS of breaks along the way). And then the next day, I woke up and was even more sore!

Day 3- Cardio Power & Resistance: It was a lot like Day 2's video but a little bit longer. Lots of jumping  and lots of push-ups (moving push-ups and V push-ups). I also really tweaked my knee doing some hurdle runs. Ouch. And if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you also got this very attractive shot of me post work-out.
I was VERY sore after the work-out and the next morning. At this point, I am really looking forward to tomorrow.

Day 4- Cardio Recovery: I woke up this morning and my body was not as sore, but my knee is screaming! I decided to play Orthopedic Dr. and run to Walgreens on my way home and buy a knee brace. I braced up and pushed play to what I think will be my favorite DVD of the bunch. All I can say is "Ahhhh." It was exactly what my tired body needed. Stretching with a little bit of cardio added in. I loved it.

Day 5- Pure Cardio: If Day 4 was my favorite, then Day 5 is my most definitely my least-favorite. Oh. My. Word. It is the pure hell (in a good way.) I needed the knee brace again which kinda stinks. Pure Cardio was fast-paced and scary. Seriously!
When Shaun T says how nervous he is with what is about to go down, how do you think this big girl feels? You do the same hard warm-up, stretch, and then do each drill for one minute straight as hard as you can with no water breaks. You start to see the Insanity Alums drop like flies. (That made this big girl feel a little better!) When it was done, I crashed to the floor! Jackson asked if I was ok...I made sure he remembered how to dial 9-1-1. He just laughed at me. Gee, thanks little boy! =)

Day 6- Plyometric Cardio Circuit (again): I actually feel I did this so much easier than on Day 2. Is it normal to feel like my fitness has already improved in a week?

Food: Jason and I are eating as clean as we can. We agreed if we are going to do this we are going to go big or go home. We used to eat fast food all the time. We have agreed to have one splurge meal a week (not the normal 5 or 6 splurge meals we were having.) We had a date night last night and it was so nice to look forward to a meal and savor each bite. While I did splurge on a few things, I still had salad with no dressing, the seasonal veggies, water, and only ate half of my meat.

Weight: I am down 2 lbs. but I am already seeing a huge change in my previous baby pooch-not quite as much over-hang. I am going to try my hardest and not focus on the scale and just how my clothes are fitting, face is slimming down, etc. (We shall see how that goes, I am a girl and the number on the scale is a big deal to us.)

Overall: I am SUPER proud of my awesome hubby and me. We have held each other accountable and actually surprised ourselves with how well we have done. Week 1 is done! Only 8 more to go. Yikes!

Putting It All Out There

This is scary for me to put out there because once it is on the internet, there is no taking it back! Let me tell you a little about myself. I have always fought with my weight. I mean struggled. I have always been the chubby friend. I am the one with the "pretty face" and the "great personality" that thrives on making people laugh.

Last night, Jason and I started Insanity (and I feel completely insane too. That sucker is hard!) This is the first step to saying good-bye to the fat friend with the "pretty face" that loves to make people laugh. Don't get me wrong, I will always love making people laugh but I am in major need of some confidence. I also need to be able to keep up with my active boys (and maybe when these 63 days are over my face will be a little prettier too.)

I am hoping to do weekly updates on my weight loss, how I am feeling, favorite healthy recipes, etc.

(*And yes, we did take before pictures. And no, they won't be put on the blog....not yet anyway. I'll wait til I'm good and hot to blow your mind with my transformation!) =)

So here I go. If you have any questions, something inspiring, or even anything funny I can think about while I am killing myself leave me a comment. My goal is to be an encouragement to women who are just like me.

Hudson-isms

I love to hear the things that kids say. My boys say some pretty funny stuff (and have been known to make me hold my breath praying they don't say something they shouldn't!) I have a few gems for you straight from the mouth of my 3-year old.

*Hudson was sitting on the couch with Jason after dinner and was swishing something in his mouth. I didn't see his cup and was wondering if he had snuck a sip of my drink.
Mommy: "Hudson, what is in your mouth?"
Huds: (swallows) "Just spit."
Mommy: (cringe!)

*About a month ago, we were doing our normal Monday morning shopping trip to the local Kroger. (Now, before I go any farther with my story, I need to tell you that Hudson is loud. I mean LOUD! Nothing he says is in a whisper. Ok, back to my story.) There is nothing new about this Kroger. We have seen all the workers every Monday for the past several years. We are familiar with them. We always seem to have the same lady that bags our groceries too. This lady is so sweet and is always so friendly with Hudson and me. She does, however; have an eye patch.
Lady: "Do you want paper or plastic?"
Mommy: "Plastic is fine." (I know not the greenest choice but we re-use them.)
Hudson: "Mommy, is that lady a pirate?"
Mommy: (cringe!...I stood frozen. Maybe if he thinks I turned into a statue he won't ask again if she is a pirate.)
Now every time we go shopping there, I have to give him a pep talk in the car about not asking if people are pirates.

*Last weekend, we were shopping in Hobby Lobby. Hudson asks about a million questions a day. "Why are we here?" "What are you going to buy?" "Why are you going to buy that?" As we are standing in the check-out line, a very grumpy looking lady comes to stand behind us.
Hudson: "Why is her face so........
Mommy: (having a mild panic attack at what is about to come out!)
Hudson'"....happy?"
Mommy: "She is just a happy lady." (turn around to smile at her to be met with a scowl. "Geez, lighten up!")
At least to Huds she is happy!

*This morning, we have been having some snow flurries. It is so pretty but not sticking to the ground.
Mommy: "Jason, check out the snow. It is coming down pretty good."
The boys looks out the window and then Hudson disappears. We walk by his room to see this...
He had put on his snow boots, snow bibs, and toboggan. Sweet boy was trying to be optimistic that there would be some snow to play in. I'm thinking that's not going to happen.
